ANNUAL SPORTS DAY 2009-2010: DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, BANGALORE (SOUTH)

Sports Day at Royale Concorde: Royale Concorde International School hosted its annual Sports day on the 27th November, wherein Mr. Praveen Sood, Additional Commissioner of Police, was present as
the Guest of Honour. Apart from Mr. Sood, the event was presided over by Shri. K. Krishnamurthy, Secretary, Karnataka State Hockey Association, and Shri L.R. Shivramegowda, Chairman, RCIS. A march past by the four houses – Ares,Artemis, Athena and Apollo – then kick-started the event, even as Mr. Krishnamurthy took the salute. The sports captain then led the students’ council body to take the pledge during an oath taking ceremony. This event was also held to decide the Champions for the academic year 2010-2011, which was bagged by the students of Ares house. The event also saw a number of musical drills and other variety shows.

Children’s Day at St Micheals: Children’s Day was celebrated at St Micheals School on the 19 of November for the primary section and on 20th November for higher sections. Both days were packed with fun for the children. This was a day of complete fun and excitement for the children. The day began with the teachers presenting the assembly. Then the children had lots of fun watching variety of dances
by various groups of teachers including a Dhandiya, Tamil Fusion Dance, Hindi duet, an Indo-Western Dance, complete with co-ordinated costumes. They even had magic show and a couple of solo songs by some teachers. They also had some competitions organized for the children like Fancy dress, Flower arrangement, Rangoli, Pot painting and Instrumental. Celebration ended with cake and chocolate for every one.


Joy to the World: This must have been the anthem sung by the students and teachers of Carmel High School on the 14th December, 2010, which marked the Christmas celebration for teachers. A musical drill was performed by the teachers, who dressed up as the various characters taken from the Bible like Jesus, Mary and Joseph. For the students, it was a sight to see their teachers dressed up as these Bible characters. At the end of the function, Santa Claws, also known as Father of Christmas, also made his appearance was greeted by the students and teachers with much reveling and enjoyment. Not to mention, the students learnt the significance of Christmas and the story behind it too!

Annual Day at St Mira's School: On 12th December, St. Mira's High School celebrated their 29th Annual Day with “Kaizen”- changing for the better- as this year's theme. Prof. Nandini Vidyanathan, a leading mentor of young entrepreneurs was the chief guest for the day, Principal, Mrs. Ganga Prasad and school office bearers were present on the occasion.

The chief guest gave away prizes for students who excelled in various curricular and co-curricular activities. Top rank holders of the previous 10th standard and their teachers were also felicitated. Later on in the day, a colourful cultural programme was also held where children from kindergarten up to 10th standard and the teachers displayed their talent. A large gathering of parents was also present, encouraging their children.

Carmel sports day: The sports day at Carmel High School took place on 25th and 26th of November, 2010, and was presided over by Mr. Kempaiah, Block Education Officer, while Wing Commander Mr. Shirazi preside over the valedictory function. The first day, 25th November, was the sports day for the primary classes, which saw yoga performances, dance recitals as well as a theatre production. The sports day for the middle school as well as secondary classes, held on 26th November, saw martial arts performances and various races.

Sports Day at St Micheal's: On the 12th and 13th of November, St Michael's School celebrated their sports day for both junior and senior classes respectively. Former Indian Olympian Mr Kenneth Powell presided over the Junior Sports day on the 12th Nov and Mr Dodda Ganesh, international cricketer, presided over the senior Sports day, as chief guests. Some of the high- lights of the show were Musical drills, yoga performances as well as a 4*100m inter-school relay. Schools like Charles High School , CMR, East Point High School and Devamatha High school competed in the relay for boys and girls, though St Michael's won the first place in both.

Investiture ceremony at Tapovan School
Tapovan High School celebrated their investiture ceremony on June 23, 2010, in which the new student council was elected for the year 2010-2011. The members were installed by the Founder President of the school Mr. J V R Sharma. The principal Ms. J A Vani Sharma addressed the gathering.

VIDYA PRAKASH SCHOOL celebrated its World Environment Day on June 5, 2010 in the school premises. The main theme was to encourage people to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect flora and fauna etc.

A prayer service at St. Michael’s High School
Hoopla member St. Michael’s High School conducted a prayer service on July 3, 2010. The occasion also commemorated the school’s founder late Mrs. Betsy Chacko on her 9th death anniversary.

Charity Fete at St Michael’s School
St.Michael’s High School organized a Charity Fete (Carnival) recently. The children had the time of their lives, enjoying themselves at the various games stalls and food stalls. There were 27 stalls in all. Housie, Lucky Dip, Aim for the Mouth, Bowling and Test your Nerves were some of the games. Among the food stalls, the chicken kabab, pop corn, dosas, vadas, soft drinks and cutlets were a huge hit.
The proceeds of the Fete have been given to various charitable organizations including Little Sisters of the Poor, Home of Hope (Auto Raja’s Home), IDF (Formerly Indian Leprosy Foundation), etc.

Annual Day at Vasavi Vidya Niketan
On the 27th of January, Vasavi Vidya Niketan conducted their Annual Day. The Chief Guest was Mr N Ramesh Chandra, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bangalore South. The function started with an invocation by Swathi Devi Prasad of Class 2. The function was held in a very grand manner

Annual Day at Tapovan
Tapovan Taranga, Waves 2010 was held on 23rd January 2010 at the school premises. Director of Public Instruction, Sri Chidre Shankaraiah Swamy , the Chief Guest of the day was so impressed by the programme that he extended his stay to view the cultural program. The Guests of honour were Smt. Sadhna Kaikini, President, Buoyancee and Mr. Ajith Kaikini, Director, Growth and Corporate Training, Buoyancee.

A rainbow of colours of dance movements in gorgeous costumes, to the tune of new and old melodies by all the students was watched by the audience without a wink. There was a thunderous applause to the dramatisation of soul searching tales by the nursery wing students. The way they mouthed the dialogues and emoted was splendid and opened another dimension of the art of expression at that tender age .The way “Mile sur mera tumhara” blended “unity in diversity” of Indian cultural heritage, lifted the feeling of oneness in every viewer.

Annual Sports Day at PSSEMR
Sports is designed to help one keep fit and to fill in a spare hour. Playing of sports is no more a luxury as it used to be for some people. Sports have greatly developed as part of human activity. The Annual Sports Day was held on 19th of December. On this day children were all ready to show their athletic talent to their parents, Chief Guest and all those present there. All students of our school marched enthusiastically with confidence. The school also conducted various competitions. The welcome dance by the students was followed by a welcome song by our school choir. It was a splendid morning. The events that took place in our school were swimming, athletics, foot ball, cricket and so on. The esteemed Chief Guest was Mr.Pushkar Vohra, A.E.O Sports, CBSE who highlighted the significance of sports. There were also P.T displays and games for parents. The closing ceremony was graced by Mr.Vivek Mennon, C.E.O, Vicas India who highlighted the role of youth in nation building. All India Inter school Quiz on Germany in DPS- South
Quoting Oliver Kahn “A German team should not be afraid to go into a tournament. History shows that we can raise the level of our game when it matters” we got the inspiration to start off the India Inter School Quiz on Germany. DPS society, in association with the Max Muller Bhavan had the zonal round of the All India Inter School quiz on Germany at Delhi Public School, Bangalore South which also is PASCH school.

The host school inclusive, there were 15 schools who took part in the quiz. The quiz had a written round (qualifying round) where all the teams had to answer a few questions about Germany and 8 teams were chosen as the qualifiers for the next level of quizzing.

The on stage preliminary round had 5 categories and there were four teams chosen to go to the second round. In the second round, the four teams who were chosen had to choose questions from the display baskets and had 5 categories to complete. The highest scorer for the day was the team from National Hill View Public School and the second in line was the team from Vidya Niketan School.The winning team was awarded prizes worth Rs. 12,000 and the second runners up were awarded prizes worth Rs. 8000. To keep the audiences entertained we had scintillating performances of dance and music by the DPS, Bangalore South team. All the participants received participation certificates. The quiz ended with two teams going to Delhi for the final rounds in January 2010.


Sports day at Vidya Prakash
The exciting Sports Day was held on the 12th of December 2009. The sports meet began with the opening march past led by the school band following which the sports meet was declared open by the Honourable Chief Guest, Chairman of Vidya Prakash Academy ,B.N. Chhbaria. Our Secretary, Mrs Kiran S also graced the occassion. There was keen competition between the athletes in different track and field events. The march past and colourful display made the Sports Day a grand success. Inter-house events were also conducted. A unique feature of this event was a display of pyramids.

Christmas celebrations at Vidya Prakash

The celebrations began with the singing of Christmas carols. A play, “Noah's Ark” by the nursery section delivered a Christmas message. The visit of Santa was a joyous surprise to the children. Santa distributed gifts to all the children.


DPS-NORTH HABBA
Habba, a marvellous event put up by spirited students, management and teachers in association with enthusiastic parents was organized by DPS-North. It was organized for a noble cause; that is to raise funds for a parallel school-Anubhav Shiksha Kendra – providing free education for underprivileged children. It was meticulously planned and beautifully executed on the sprawling playground of the school. December 18th to 20th heralded a new era in the history of DPS - North for a soulful cause.
It was a winter carnival but everybody was in the warmth of compassion that they had abundantly contributed to a great cause. A number of stalls put up by the students with the active participation of the management, teachers and parents attracted an enormous crowd. A playing arena was also erected with a number of rides adding to the fun and frolic of the visitors. Habba also gave an opportunity for artisans to display and sell their creations. The centre stage of the Habba was the electrifying performance of the students which included dance, music and live band shows. The major enterprises of Bangalore like KSIC, Shriram Properties, Café Coffee Day, and other such groups also put up their stalls to add flavour to Habba. Finally, Habba was a grand success.

ANNUAL SPORTS DAY 2009-2010: DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL, BANGALORE (SOUTH)

The Annual Sports day 2009 – 2010, of Delhi Public School, Bangalore (South) began with the arrival of the chief guest, a former Olympian and the ex Captain of the Indian Hockey team, Mr. Jude Felix, at 10:30 a.m, on the 22nd of December 2009. The other dignitaries of the day were Mr. Mansoor Ali Khan, Member, Board of Management, Ms. Tasbia Khan, Trustee, KKECT.

The opening ceremony of the event commenced with the march past parade of school appointees, the Head Girl, the Vice Head Girl, the Sports Captain, the Sports Vice Captain and the four contingents of the four houses followed by the contingent of the Class Prefects of the primary block. The Chief Guest took the salute as they marched past the podium to the music of the smartly attired school band. The Sports Day Mascot ‘Tora’ the tiger also came around greeting the visitors. The Principal Ms. Manju Sharma welcomed the visitors and invited the chief guest to declare the meet open. After the chief guest addressed the gathering, the Sports Captain, initiated the torch relay, the flaming torch was passed on, around the field by the out standing achievers in sports this year. The School Sports Captain then went on to administer the oath. The ground was then taken over by the children of the primary block who put up colourful displays and took the crowd’s breath away! The athletic events commenced after this and the children who represented various houses put in their best efforts for their respective teams. The prizes for the winners were given away by the Chief Guest, Mr. Jude Felix, Ms. Tasbia Khan, Trustee, KKECT, Bangalore, Mr. Mansoor Ali Khan, Member, Board of Directors.

Ms Usha Shankar, the Senior Mistress, graciously agreed to speak about the ‘Rain Harvesting Project’ being undertaken by the students of Delhi Public School, Bangalore (South), when asked about the effort, that the school was taking to protect environment. The ensuing display by the children Think Green’ echoed the same sentiment, in shape of a serene formation amidst the flurry of activities in the field.

The displays of the day culminated in the grand finale of the event which was an all out extravaganza - it was a carnival in a riot of colours with the dancers, the hula dancers, the clowns and the cyclists who were joined by the children of the Prerna Shiksha Kendra. The ongoing displays, the track events and the results of the races were broadcast on a digital board.The event concluded with the visitors joining in the revelry and the vote of thanks was proposed by the Junior Head Boy Pratap S Vangal, Class IV E.
